UESP promotes Portuguese participation in CeBIT

The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) from INESC Porto is currently promoting the participation of the Portuguese entrepreneurial environment in the CeBIT technology fair. This unit is also in charge of organising meetings between potential international business partners.

CeBIT will start in March at the city of Hannover, Germany. With the participation of almost seven thousand companies and 400 thousand visitors, this is the largest and most important technology fair in the world in the areas of Information Technology and Electronic Communication.

With more than 40 companies represented, Portugal is one of the event’s most active participants, especially when compared to larger countries, such as Italy and Spain that represented 59 and 57 companies, respectively. This conclusion is even more striking if we compare the Portuguese participation with Belgium’s. Both countries’ dimension is similar, but Belgium participated with 17 companies only.

In previous editions, hundreds of Portuguese companies have used CeBIT as an opportunity to start their internationalisation process. With INESC Porto’s support, these companies have managed to establish several business partnerships, agreements in the area of Research and Development as well as in the Manufacturing area. Thus, it was possible for these companies to broaden their contact network in Europe.

This fair aims at supporting companies from all over Europe working in the areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Other goal is to find suitable business partners and broaden contact networks.

The Portuguese companies Quidgest (Information Systems) and Versus (which develops Training and Information Technology projects) are some of the most successful examples. Quidgest managed to establish business partnerships in Lithuania and broaden its contact network in Spain. Versus, on the other hand, has established a partnership to develop a software product.
