“Brain Machine Interface Engineering” presented at INESC Porto
José Carlos Príncipe, president of INESC Porto’s Scientific Advisory Board has presented his sixth book “Brain Machine Interface Engineering” on 7 March, at INESC Porto’s auditorium.
Mediated by Artur Pimental Alves, director of INESC Porto, the presentation started with a short introduction to the author’s life course and book theme, carried out by Pedro Guedes de Oliveira, adviser at INESC Porto’s Board.
After that, António Martins Silva, clinical director of the Santo António Hospital and visiting full professor at the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICBAS), made a short intervention, giving a medical perspective on the area of Neurology.
Before an attentive and interested audience, José Carlos Príncipe, professor and researcher at the University of Florida, awarded with the Career Award “IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Career Achievement Award” in 2007, explained the main themes of the book that he co-wrote with his student, Justin Sanchez (PhD). Some of the themes are the decoding of the intention of movement inside the human brain that will enable people suffering from paralysis to move.
The presentation ended with a short discussion session where the audience was allowed to pose questions about computational neuroengineering, the area where José Carlos Príncipe is said to be one the world’s leaders.
