USIC collaborates with Hospital de S.João in the Geração XXI Project
The Information and Communication Systems Unit (USIC) has been collaborating in the Geração XXI project – “Being born and growing in the beginning of the millenium”, whose objective is to characterize the prenatal and postnatal care of a group of ten thousand newborns, identifying modifiable determinants of that development in a way as to better understand the health condition in infants and, later, as adolescents and adults.
The Geração XXI project is the first study ever to be carried out in Portugal. Although the health and characteristics of the newborn have been studied in this country, in the past, most studies were based on data obtained by routine from the Statistic National Institute.
For the development of this computer system – SI. Geração XXI – the Hygiene and Epidemiology Service of Hospital de S.João counted on INESC Porto, namely in the planning, coordination and technical monitoring of the development team.
