Argentina’s Ministry of Science invites director from INESC Porto

The Ministry of Science from the Government of Argentina invited Vladimiro Miranda, one of INESC Porto’s directors, to integrate an international panel for the evaluation of R&D institutions.

The evaluation of the IEE – Institute of Electrical Engineering from the National University of San Juan took place from 11 to 16 May and the meetings were held in Buenos Aires and San Juan. The institutional evaluation procedure is currently being tested in Argentina and it has both similarities and differences with what happens in Portugal.

One of the most interesting aspects within the evaluation process was the inclusion of interviews with companies that have consulting and technology transfer relations with the scientific institution. The panel was given a month to write a document with the preliminary conclusions. This document was publicly presented in Argentina in a preliminary power point version at the end of the visit.

The Institute of Electrical Engineering is an organisation within the Faculty of Engineering from the National University of San Juan. Its activity profile is quite similar to the Power Systems Unit from INESC Porto and it includes an interesting consulting activity in Latin America.

Both institutions have a small exchange project and, in fact, researchers from IEE were welcomed in Porto and some articles have been co-written.
