USE participates in “Green Islands” project

The Power Systems Unit was invited to participate in the “Green Islands” project – flagship project of the MIT-Portugal programme for the area of Energy Sustainable Systems.

The intention with this project is to develop and implement a strategic plan that will turn some of the Azores islands into energy autonomous systems, through the introduction of vehicle fleets that run on electricity. This will cause an impact on the electrical system, maximising the production of electricity from renewable resources and increasing the energy efficiency through the use of several resources.

The participation of USE is coordinated by João Peças Lopes.
