Hopes and fears

I carried out my traineeship in INESC Porto. When I first got here, I had a lot of expectations and some fears.


Today, I believe this was the best option I could have made, taking into account a group of factors that comprehend the human quality of my co-workers, the work I developed which allowed me to acquire a great deal of experience and the opening of new horizons.

After the traineeship, I had the chance to carry on with the development of my work in INESC Porto, in a new project and with a very supportive team.

However, I think INESC Porto is a bit isolated, geographically speaking, mainly considering those who have to walk here. There are almost no spaces for breaks and snacks.

Anyway, this time in INESC Porto has been very positive and has turned out to be pretty enriching as I feel involved in the different projects and integrated in the work environment.

Dear Rute,
It is surprising how you describe INESC Porto as being somewhat isolated – as if it were a natural or unavoidable state.

I understand that you refer to the surrounding context, this city area called Asprela, which is still lacking the vision that will transform it into a true University Campus of Porto.

A campus should offer all you ask for. It is special because special rules apply, form traffic to urban concept, from the schools to restaurants, lodging, amusement, mail office, travel agencies. No need for inventing: don’t you know good examples in the US?

We offer excellent opportunities in terms of research and professional development, at INESC Porto and in the Faculty of Engineering. We will have to work harder to bring the other aspects to the same level of quality.
