INESC Porto has developed ShoeBiz@PT - a system for electronic integration of SMEs in the Shoe Industry, for the Portuguese Technological Shoe Centre. This work is a part of the Entre Douro e Vouga Digital project (EDV Digital).

The objective of the ShoeBiz@PT solution is to foment the electronic integration of the shoe industry companies (shoe manufacturers, subcontractors and components’ suppliers) through the development and offer of a safe and reliable infrastructure of communication of electronic documents, enabling the dispatch/reception of business documents (orders, requisitions, delivery notes and manufacturing orders, among others).

The receivers of the solution proposed are all companies that belong to the shoe and components industry, regardless of its current state of informatization and dimension. So, companies with or without integrated management systems (ERP) are potential users of the Solution proposed.

The system developed is composed of four elements: a data model (Shoecom) that defines the format of the documents to be sent from one company to another (Request for Quotation, Quotation, Order, Response to Order, Request for change of order, State of Order, Delivery Note, Request for Reception, order dispatch, Reception of the Order, Technical Specification of the Product); a message server named Shoebiz@PT.Hub, to install in CTP and with implementation of the MSH message service of the OASIS ebXML architecture and PostGreSQL database; a message server named http://ShoeBiz@PT.Connector, to install in each company that joins the ShoeBiz@PT System and a message editor named ShoeBiz@PT.eMail with graphic interface in Java available in Windows Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, making it possible to create, send and receive Shoecom documents.

The system was concluded in December 2006 and it is now being installed in CTCP.

INESC Porto’s team is made of César Toscano, Luís Carneiro, Rui Diogo and Rute Oliveira, from the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP).
