For the VISNET II – Network of Excellence project financed by the Sixth European Committee Framework Programme – and following the project strategy when it comes to cooperation in activities of research, integration and dissemination of results, the Telecommnications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) was visited by a PhD student of the University of Surrey – Omar Abdul-Hameed.

This way, part of the mission of the project that places special emphasis on the sharing of knowledge and on joint publications between partners was achieved.

The visit, which began on the 28th of May and lasted a week, was used to present the integration of a UMTS and WIMAX emulator, developed at the University of Surrey, in the wireless prototype that UTM offers as the support to several research projects, including VISNET.

The final result of the visit was fairly positive and a partial integration of the emulator was achieved. The visitor loved the environment and thought the Portuguese culture was very similar to his own country’s culture– Iraq.
