USIC submits two European Projects proposals

On the 25th of April, the Information and Communication Systems Unit tendered a proposal of an R&D project to the sixth IST Programme. The proposal’s title is CAALYX - Complete Ambient Assisting Living Experiment and it addresses the 2.6.2 Objective: "Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) for the Ageing Society".

This is a STREP and its main purpose is to develop a light device that monitors the health state of older people, as well as their position in order to increase the amount of time these people live independently, in the environment they choose, safer and more self-confident.

The consortium will involve nine partners. Ângelo Martins and Artur Rocha ensured the USIC’s participation.

On the 10th of May, an R&D project proposal was submitted to PASR-2006 (Preparatory Action in Security Research). The proposal’s title is CIMSAP – Crisis Information Management Service Oriented Approach.
This project is in the line of action of the MEDSI project (http://www.medsi.org) which has recently been finished, and it addresses the specific objectives of the programme: 1) Enhancing Crisis Management and 2) Achieving interoperability and integrated systems for information and communication.

The consortium involves six partners. Artur Rocha, Ademar Aguiar and Alexandre Carvalho ensured USIC’s participation.
