INESC Porto welcomes ERCIM

INESC Porto welcomed a delegation from the European Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) on 7 January.

ERCIM aims at the establishment of a collaborative network within the European research community and at promoting cooperation within the European industry environment. INESC Porto has already participated in this consortium and will do so again by integrating PERCIM (Portuguese ERCIM).

PERCIM is a national group set up by FEUP, the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and INESC and is opened to the possibility of welcoming new members.

The delegation’s visit was an opportunity for its members to get to know INESC Porto’s facilities and the projects carried out at the institution’s Units. This is, in fact, an essential step for the integration process.

The visit started at 9.30 am with short presentations on INESC Porto (carried out by Pedro Guedes de Oliveira), PERCIM, INESC ID and IST.

After the initial presentations, Vladimiro Miranda, Jaime Cardoso, Jorge Pinho
de Sousa and António Gaspar carried out more thorough presentations about INESC Porto’s activities and research areas.

Paulo Ferreira, Nuno Roma, Nuno Mamede and Arlindo Oliveira, representatives from INESC ID and IST, also carried out presentations about their institutions.

After lunch, ERCIM’s delegation went back to INESC Porto where José Falcão e Cunha did a presentation on FEUP (Faculty of Engineering from the University of Porto), while Eugénio Oliveira, Pascoal Faria and Lia Patrício presented FEUP’s different research areas.

The members of the delegation and the institutions’ representatives joined afterwards for dinner where there was a cheerful socialization regarding the visit’s results.
