UOSE submits applications to FP7

The Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE) is currently participating in three proposals for European projects within the areas of devices for optical networks and biomedical sensors.

The TEANET project (components for TErabit Access NETwork) aims at developing components for passive optical networks with wavelength multiplexing for 100 channels and 10 Gb/s upstream transmission rate.

This project is led by the University of Peloponnese in Greece and it includes 12 other partners, such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications Heinrich-Hertz-Institut, Infineon Technologies, among others.

A consortium led by the Instituto di Fisica Applicata “Nello Carrara” presented the proposal “Optical Microresonator Based Device for High-sensitive and Selective Sensors Applied to Non-Invasive DIAGnosis”.

This consortium is set up by INESC Porto and six other partners from Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Ireland. The consortium aims at developing new photonic biosensors that will explore the peculiar features of resonant cavities composed of spheres or dielectric cylinders, where light propagation is achieved through whispering gallery modes.

On the other hand, the PETAPHEST proposal (PETAbit PHotonic and Electrical SwiTch) intends to develop the technology that is necessary to implement a high capacity electric-optical knot with sub-Pb/s and low energy rates. The consortium is led by the University of Peloponnese and includes partners such as Alcatel-Lucent Deutschland, British Telecommunications, Telecom Italia and the Universities of Aston and Essex, among others.
