The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) organised the international workshop "CIBlend07 - Blending Theory and Practice in Community Informatics" on 27 and 28 November.

The workshop's aim was to produce a seeding text on relevant current and future issues of Community Informatics (CI) that will cause impact on research and practice in the near future. The idea was to work together and develop an in-depth contribution to the field using a multidisciplinary perspective in order to establish bridges between theory and practice.

The workshop continued the processes that had already been undertaken in several events, including the COMINF06 workshop at Montpellier in 2006, the Wiki of 'Big Questions' that was developed at the Prato Conference in 2006 and the workshop at Open University in 2005. This time, the whole event (including online preparations) was devoted to designing, preparing and carrying out of an online group writing session.

The Organising Committee was set up by António Lucas Soares (chairman) from INESC Porto/FEUP, Peter Day from the School of Computing, Mathematical and Information Sciences, University of Brighton (UK), Larry Stillman from the Centre for Community Networking Research, Faculty of IT, Monash University (Australia) and Beverly Trayner from Eudaimonia, Unipessoal Lda (Portugal).

For more information on this workshop, please go to INESC Porto or to CIBlend07's websites.
