DANOTEC – Defense, Armament and New Technologies Association
– has organized a seminar on Safety Technology, in the
facilities of the Instituto de Estudos Superiores Militares
in Lisbon, on the 7th of March. The goal of this
Association is the development of a broad industrial and
scientific network of competencies capable of maximizing the
national entrepreneurship, and the public and private
investment to be made, as a partner in the New Europe of
Defense. It has 40 associates, among which INESC Porto,
which is also a member of the General Council.
At the seminar, Artur Rocha was in charge of the
presentation of the results of MEDSI project of the
Information and Communication Systems Unit. MEDSI’s
innovative proposals were highlighted, namely in the
interoperability field and particularly at the level of
fusion of heterogeneous geo-referenced data, coming from GIS
Systems of several manufacturers. This is a problem felt by
the majority of the people present, for which it had already
been mentioned in previous lectures several times.
The Seminar had an extended participation: members from
the three branches of the Armed Forces, PSP, GOE, GNR,
Firemen and the National Council for Civil Emergency
Planning, besides several DANOTEC associates.
The main purpose of DANOTEC is to bring together the
Portuguese Companies and Research Institutes, which are
involved in the research, development, manufacture and
service of products concerning Naval, Land and Aerospace
sectors, as well as correlated Systems and Equipments. It
also seeks to promote their technical and technological
expertise into the different business areas, namely those
directed at the foreign market.
The Association maintains close and monitored relations
with its European counterparts, following the activities of
more interest to the companies, and in particular in ASD -
AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe
(resulting from the fusion of AECMA, EDIG and EUROSPACE), of
which it is a member and where it keeps a national delegate.
