Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit in projects of the Sixth Framework Programme

On the 9th of February, the final audit of the VISNET project, a Network of Excellence (NoE) of the European Commission’s Sixth Framework Programme was carried out. This programme integrated 13 European institutions besides INESC Porto, namely Universities and Research Centres with acknowledged scientific work. in the area of technologies and audiovisual systems in networks.

The participation of INESC Porto covered several areas (audio and video processing, networks, multimedia contents management, distributed systems) and involved the coordination of two Workpackages (José Ruela and Luís Gustavo Martins) and the participation in the Supervisory Committee (Maria Teresa Andrade).

In the audit, INESC Porto/UTM was represented by José Ruela, who presented the Workpackage activities he coordinated.

The preliminary conclusion transmitted by the auditors focused on the fact that the project has achieved its goals and closed its activities successfully.

In the same week, on the 7th of February, Brussels hosted the sessions of final evaluation of a group of selected projects that submitted proposals within the recent demand in the “Networked Audiovisual Systems and Home Platforms” area.

The final decision relative to the endurance of these projects will be published soon.
