Last 2nd of February, the meeting of the INESC Porto’s Board
decided on a ne organization and distribution of
responsibilities among board members.
A new department was created – the Economic Value of
Knowledge, which will be José Manuel Mendonça’s
responsibility. Other changes affected the Building
Management Service which is now called Infra-structures
Management Service and integrates the first one as well as
the Laboratories and Workshop Service. These designations
have been suppressed.
The departments of Global Strategy and External Relations
and Economic and Financial Affairs, of which José Manuel
Mendonça will be in charge, will part of the Board of INESC
Porto’s organization. The President will ensure the
strategic orientation of the Optoelectronics and Electronic
Systems Unit (UOSE), the Information and Logistics
Department and the coordination of the Information and
Logistics Department/ Accounting and Finances.
Artur Pimenta Alves is now in charge of Communication and
Image and Advanced Training, ensuring the strategic
orientation of the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit
(UTM) and the coordination of the Communication Service.
José Carlos Caldeira is going to be in charge of Planning
and Control of the Activities as well as Facilities,
Infra-Structures and Asset Management, ensuring the
strategic orientation of the Manufacturing Systems
Engineering Unit (UESP) and the coordination of the
Information and Logistics Department/Management Control,
Communications and Informatics Service and Infra-Structure
Management Service (Buildings, Laboratories and Factories).
Vladimiro Miranda will be in charge of Strategy of
Promotion of the Scientific Activity and of
Internationalization, the strategic orientation of the Power
Systems Unit and the coordination of the Informatics and
Administration Service and the Library and Documentation
Service, as well as the Bulletin of INESC Porto.
Mário Jorge Leitão will be in charge of Human Resources
and Legal Affairs, ensuring the strategic orientation of the
Information and Communication Systems Unit and the
coordination of the Information and Logistics Department.
José Carlos Caldeira will handle the current affairs of
the Units/Departments/Services that involve the competence
of the Board. Whenever he is unable to carry out these
functions, any other executive director or director will
take charge
The signing of proposals, applications, contracts,
declarations, terms of responsibility and other documents
that involve the competence of the Board will follow the
same procedure.
The director holding strategic responsibility over a Unit
will be the preferred link between this Unit and the Board
but, at the same time, a new communication scheme is
implemented, where the relevant information is shared by all
members of the Board.
